My question is, should i upgrade first, an i7 6700k (with mobo and ram) or the gtx 1070, both costs around the same price (in Sweden)

I play games such as Dayz,Skyrim,Witcher3,GtaV, and many more titles.
I also render videos on Sony vegas pro

  • Intel i7 920 @4.0Ghz
    GTX 770 2gb
    Corsair vengeance 8gb RAM
    Corsair h100i
    Asus p6t deluxe v2
    Fractal design tegra 650w

30 frames higher? I can't quite confirm that... You'll notice some gain but i think it won't be that much in gaming. Maybe some more 10 ~ 20fps.

But the answer lies within you ( hahaha ). Get a CPU now, enjoy a little bit more of the games and when you have some money left get a 1060 ( around $250 ) and you'll be able to max-out all of those games in 1080p at 60fps without problems!

How are the games holding right now? If you upgrade the CPU you won't notice much difference in FPS since most work is made with the GPU. But about rendering videos, you'll notice quite a change.

I'd get a CPUxMobo Upgrade for now if you think the games are playable right now, because it'll last much longer than a GPU ( as there a new one being realeased every now and then ).

But if you think your gameplay is poor and rendering is sufficient, go with the GPU, you notice that for the 770 to a 1070 the jump is HUGE and will se a great difference from before and now.

So tl;dr -> CPU for working rendering speed / GPU for gaming performance.

Why? The motherboard makes next to no difference, in what gpu it can handle

Majority of the games can't keep up with 1080p60 constantly, especially in cpu heavy games. I know i will see a significant fps boost in frames in most games, but rendering is somewhat important to me. i've watched some benchmark there the i7 6700k does give around 10 to 30 extra frames.

Just for compatibility issues. Not necessarily only between the board and the GPU but between the board and everything else.

I would go for the GPU personally. You're Bloomfield CPU is still good and gains would be kinda small. Like manddy said though, if time is of the essence rendering Video do CPU if gaming is what it's mostly about do GPU. Plus the New wave of CPU around the corner so price wars could get juicy.

Not Sandy

Are you certain that the gains would be small? because a 5 generation jump should make somewhat of a difference

Don't get me wrong though. Your CPU will hold the 1060 back for sure. It's just a few more months and we will have a new lineup. Intel Cannon Lake and of course Zen. GPU's are pretty much out for the next while, except AMD's Vega and the GTX 1080 Ti (if there is going to be one)

CPU's around corner, GPU's tapped out for a little while
