I think my hard drive may be failing.

I would totally agree with kasol kay. As the drive is working just fine, you really need to back up the data stored on it ASAP.
Such sounds could indicate some mechanical flaw and the drive could fail at any time.

Once you've backed up your data, you can test the drive and see what's wrong with it: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
Attaching it with different cables to another port will not hurt as well.

In case the drive is under warranty, you can contact the place you got it from.
