I want to set up a backup system for the three computers in my house. I have a MacBook Air, wife has MacBook Pro and then there is a Windows 10 desktop. I want to be able to backup the important files and images/videos without having to connect an external hard drive to each. I have cox cable for Internet and a netgear Nighthawk X4 AC2350 router. what is the best way to do this without spending a ridiculous amount of money and for someone with some but limited networking knowledge?

thanks in advance.

A commercial NAS unit is the simplest method. Purchase, install disks, boot, create some folders, setup sharing, backup to shared folders.
What is your budget and space requirements?

A dual disk NAS from one of the major NAS providers (Synology, Qnap, Thecus, Asustor) would be < $200 for the chassis and then the cost of disks. They will support Windows and Mac. Most of them will even support backup from the NAS to the cloud.
