Hello guys. I've recently bought http://www.microcenter.com/product/449053/1000VA_UPS_with_LCD_Display for protection and backup of my PC/monitor. When I plug it in and run it with or without my PC the voltages it reads is between 117-120, mostly 118 though. I was under the assumption that UPSs clean power to achieve 120v or run off of the battery continuously at 120v and only need to be plugged in to charge said battery. I know tolerances are +/-5% so from 114-126v it's within spec. But is it normal for it reading 117-120 on my ups itself? I'm curious and hopeful there isn't any issues with electric and hope someone might be able to answer. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I was not sure which was best for this question. Thanks!

Yes thats completely normal and a lot more stable than wall power normally is in many places. Part of what a UPS does is AVR, but there is always a small amount of play in the voltage, it will never be perfect, but its closer than the wall will get.

Oh sorry for selecting best answer then asking something else, but my UPS is 1000va/530watts, my PC PSU is 650w. Running i7-6700k not OC, GTX 970, 16gb RAM. Is the wattage or va what counts for that? And does it affect anything besides running off of the battery backup?

Thats actually a good question. I asked Cyberpower the very same question a long time ago. The UPS delivers only the rated wattage whether on battery or wall power. So the max you can draw is 530 watts. If you try to draw more it will beep, very loudly, at you and eventually shut down.

Now that said while your PSU is 650w your system would never draw that much. If I had to estimate, probably around 400 watts tops from that system, and thats only at full max draw. You have plenty of headroom.
