PC freezes/crashes randomly when playing games

Recently I moved to college, and I brought my PC with me. I had set it up and everything seemed to be working fine. The next day as I was playing some GTA V online my PC froze. I had no option but to flick off the switch on my power supply to turn it off as it was unresponsive. Since then it happens when I try to play any game. It can happen within 3 minutes of starting the game, or after 25 minutes of playing. This problem does not occur during normal use of the PC.

I ran a memory test, but no issues/errors came up. I also checked all the connections on my motherboard once more and none were loose.

One thing I noticed is that when I open task manager when I'm on my desktop and the computer is not under any load, the disk usage fluctuates quite randomly, and often reaches 100% usage even though I am not doing anything. Another thing that I have noticed is that my CPU temperature is around 40 degrees Celsius when under no use, but the temperature doesn't go above 50-55 degrees when under a heavy load, not to my knowing anyways.

Any advice/replies are greatly appreciated.
