Is playing games that the CPU can't handle damaging to your computer?

Hello everyone.

I have a fairly old computer that I've upgraded with a graphics card and an SSD, and I'm playing Heroes VII on it.

For the most part it works and looks fine, but sometimes it crashes. When it does it dosen't react to anything i do (not even alt-control-delete), and the only thing i can do is turn the computer off.

I've done a little bit of research and it seems that the crashes are due to the CPU being outdated.

The crashes don't bother me all that much, but I'm worried that they are harming my computer.

Are they?
