My computer, which I custom built, developed a weird issue where when I press the power button, the machine will power up (i.e. fans will turn on), but there will be no display. In these instances, the power button will not light up. However, sometimes when I press the power button, it does lights up, and when this happens, it powers up and boots fine, with display.

Often, when I turn on my computer, I press the power button, and if it doesn't display on my monitor, I have to hit the power switch on the power supply and try again until the power light comes on. I'm by no means a hardware expert, and I've always had hardware troubles, so I really don't know what's going on.

Solution
PSU might be at the edge of power requirements. At the moment of start system may draw as much as 2 times the power required to run normally.
One scenario is that it doesn't deliver +5v (Violet wire on 24 pin to MB) or MB doesn't send "Power good" signal on grey wire on same connector.
