A friend of mine says that battlefield 1 and all games made by the same engine will be unable to run with less than 4 gb of vram. Is that true or should I not worry about it?

Solution
Games are needing more VRAM to run at max settings. 3GB is probably alright for now, but certainly not future-proof. It all depends on whether or not you want all the eye candy. And of course, it will depend on the rest of your system... the CPU in particular.

GTA V doesn't run well (60fps+) on max settings with even GTX 1060 6GB. Optimum settings use around 2.7GB vram at 1080p. Not sure about the others. But I still gave up the 3GB model for the 6GB. :ange:

*Pascal has better memory management than previous generations.

Technology has improved in the past 20 years but certainly we haven't seen much progress in Graphical needs for the past 5 years. A gtx 1050 (2gb of vram) is certainly futureproof.

What qualifies as "futureproof" depends on the person's specific needs. While a GTX1050 may be 'futureproof' to people who don't mind giving up some details at 1080p to maintain 50+fps (ex.: me), it is craptacular for someone aiming for 100+FPS on their 144Hz QHD/1440p display with details maxed out.
