I have £450 to spend on a graphics upgrade for my pc. I am buying an AOC or Asus 144hz monitor for £199 and would like some advise on how best to spend the rest. I already have an MSI GTX 970 and my upgrade options are - buy another MSI GTX 970 for £199 and go SLI, buy an MSI GTX 980 (none ti) for £239 or but an AMD RX 480 for £249 (selling my existing GTX 970 on the last 2). I play mainly fps games and want the best performance.

980 > not much faster than your 970

rx 480 > not much faster than your 970

single card you want at least a gtx 1070

sli 970 is an option, when it works

Sounds like you wish to play very high (100-120+) fps @ 1080p. You may have to sli your 970 or go to a single GTX1070 for that kind of performance. If you're willing to live closer to 60-70 fps then a GTX1060 or RX480 would work. Compare cards fps for various games at Game Debate website to get an idea what's needed for the games you play.

The 'when it works' statement about SLI is what worries me as I read mixed reviews. The monitor I am looking at only has Freesyn not G Sync so this could also be an issue with SLI.

I have just been looking at prices for 980ti cards and 1070 cards. I guess the other option is to go for one of these and put the monitor on hold until I sell my GTX 970.
