Ping to router: Each 7 or 8th ping timeouts (or very high latency)

I just finished building a new gaming rig and having trouble with the wireless network. Facts:

- Hardware: Intel i5 6600K, Asus Z10-A mobo, 32gb DDR4 memory, eVGA GTX 1080
- OS: Windows 10-64 (home)

- When I ping my router, I get a very good ping (under 1ms) for about 6-7 pings
- On the 7 or 8th ping I get a timeout or a very high latency
- Another computer sitting right next to it can ping continuously with 1 under 1ms latency (for tests above on the new gaming rig, I turned off the computer sitting right next to it)
- Wireless/wifi signal is very strong at the location of the gaming rig, so this is not an issue
- All latest drivers and firmwares are installed on router, wifi USB adapter and computer (using Snappy Driver Installer R439)

- I tried replacing the wifi adpater with a completely different brand - did not help: currently using Linksys WUSB6300
- I tried replacing the router with a completely different brand - did not help: currently using Linksys WRT1900AC
- The only thing that fixes the problem temporarily until I reboot is re-installing the drivers for the wifi adapter

Thanks for any help - this is very frustrating!

Since this is a new build, it could be that there are software updates being [strike]installed [/strike] downloaded in the background.

You can use Resource Monitor and check network activity for specific applications and services. That may provide a clue on what is using bandwidth and causing latency issues.

Thanks! The rig has been setup for a couple of weeks now and on most of the time so probably not downloading software any longer. However, you gave me the idea to look for any processes that may be taking bandwidth every few seconds. I'll look into this and report back.
