Insane Ping Spike while gaming

While gaming, mostly online games (League, Hearthstone, etc.) I'm getting these hug lag spikes that appear for a few seconds then dips back down. I have a fairly old computer, around 2009 to 2010 cyberpower asus motherboard, etc. I have Asus wifi adapter AC1300, with an AC3100 router. My roommates suggest that it may be my computer build is too old, or the 2 walls blocking it but I have never had this problem before unless I've had more people on doing their own thing (streaming, gaming, etc) and yes my roommates are on most of the time but they have not experience the lag unless someone is just getting on the xbox, steam, etc.

I have yet to try a wired connected because i don't have a long enough cord and cable management would be a pain, but if i do get one i will try. And again it is my ping not my frames, I'll be at 60 ping then spike to 400+ then drop back down in the next few seconds until I spike up again
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated to help solve this issue.

That's due to packet loss from your wifi. Sometimes, things just don't get through to your computer, so the data that should've been transferred to be interpreted by your machine is lost in the void. This has nothing to do with your machine, and everything to do with the fact that you're running it off wifi. More people doing more things on wifi=more of a chance for a packet to get lost in the void on your end, especially if your internet isn't great. I seriously recommend getting a wired connection.

I've tried it while they were on and while they were off and would still receive lag spikes regardless. And has for internet we have the 250MB package through Comcast. And what doesn't make sense is that all 3 of my roommates that were on playing league at the same time had no issue while they played and while i was on watching shows.

Then it's probably packet loss due to it not always being able to transfer through something. If it's 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi, it's going to have an issue with going through walls. Especially considering I just looked up your Wi-Fi adapter and it's a USB adapter... You're going to want to get a dedicated PCIe x1 Wi-Fi card if you plan on gaming on Wi-Fi. USB adapters do a poor job. They're convenient, but not exactly for gaming.

So it worth even keeping the usb adapter? Or get the better version, the ac1900 I think the next one up that had to antennas? And I don't think I can install a wifi chip into my pc at this point due to how old it is. Plus the router has a 5g setting that helps me better but still causes the spike
