2400MHz ram in 2133Mhz MOBO overclocking

I just bought some 2400Mhz ram and put it in a board that supports 2133Mhz and used XMP so it overclocked to 2400Mhz. If i set the base frequency on the ram as 2400Mhz and then used XMP to overclock it from that would it still work on my board?

I just set the base clock to 2600Mhz and it seems stable and it's an i5 6600k and a gigabyte Z170 gaming K3
