i had a gtx 960 sc paired with an A10-7700k but now that ive traded in my 960 for a strix 970 my 7700k is bottlenecking the 970 i was gonna upgrade to 8320 but theres no mini itx for AM3+ at my local MicroCenter they're selling an i3 6100 for 109$ and upgrade to an i5 later on, and will i still get bottlenecked? or should i buy an i5 4590 for 160$? or do you have any suggestions for a cpu to pair with a 970. All advice will be appreciated and my dick is out for harambe.

I'm actually inclined to think AM4 will have lots of ITX options, but I'm less optimistic about performance. If you're willing to buy a new motherboard and DDR4 (AM4 uses DDR4) you might as well go for Skylake now, because it's almost certainly faster per clock and clocked higher than AMD's Zen line will be. Zen will be many slower cores, vs Intel's fewer faster cores, and the early 8-core designs look to be an attractive workstation option, but will almost certainly be slower than existing Intel CPUs in gaming and general desktop use.

Would the 4590 not be adequate enough? whats the performance difference between an 4590 and an 6500

Very little, 5-10% tops. The main reason I'd suggest Skylake is that, although it's only marginally less fast, 1150 is done and gone, while 1151 will be receiving at least 2 more generations of CPUs, and has support for a lot of new types of connectivity.

i only want to upgrade to haswell because the motherboard i found "GA-Z97N-WIFI" supports DDR3 ram, i understand what you say skylake would be better but i dont plan on using my pc for anything of than gaming and skylakes about to be done unless they decide to make another i7 before Kaby Lake comes out

It's not really that big a deal, you're right. Skylake's socket will support 2 more generations of CPUs though, and motherboards made for the next 2-3 years will be compatible with Skylake, but it's not like you're going to be changing your CPU or board anyway.

so the 4590 should be fine? i would wait for the zen lineup but if am3+ didnt have a mini itx option i doubt am4 will
