How much does 1GB per core affect Radeon HD 5970

I have ordered a Radeon HD 5970
graphics card and i have read that since it is a dual GPU it only uses 1GB of Vram per core instead of 2 .

I am just wondering how much fps i would get vs a 4GB version and what graphics settings i should change in games so that it could be playable

Solution
No, because of the way dual-GPU cards work inherently. A dual-GPU card is basically like having two cards in Crossfire without needing all the extra space and extra power a second card would need. The GPUs are independent, each with its own VRAM, and much like VRAM doesn't stack in Crossfire, it doesn't stack here either. The "usable" VRAM will be half the card's total VRAM. The combined performance of the GPUs might be able to match a 270X, but in games without CFX support you'll be limited to a single GPU from the card.

The 5970 is apparently about as good as a gtx 760 or r9 270x but much older. It must be able to use more than 1gb per core. Otherwise they wouldn't even have a 4GB version. But there is a 4gb version of the gt 730 that usually doesn't use more than 2gb of vram.
