Issues Upgrading from 32 Bit Win7 to 64 Bit Win7

I have been trying to upgrade my new system from a 32 Bit Win7 installation to a 64 Bit Win7 installation, but I have been running into issues with the installation process.

My installation method is a 64 bit Win7 iso mounted onto a USB with the motherboard drivers injected into the installation directory using third party software. I am doing this because of the fact that my pc build does not have an optical drive.

After the initial installation of the 64 bit Win7, I check my system specs and saw that I had ended up with a 32 bit installation. I am unsure if this is a result of me skipping the activation key step (I am going to get a key later after all the installations are complete) or if this is a result of me setting up my system using an SSD by USB (this is my first time installing an OS onto a SSD as well as my first time installing an OS by USB and I might be missing some crucial steps). Regardless of this initial 32 bit installation, I have been trying to proceed with a 64 bit upgrade by running the installation software from my 32 bit system and selecting the upgrade option. However, every time I do this, the result is the same; I end up with a 32 bit installation. In every installation I skip the activation key step for the same reason as before.

So what is going wrong here? Can I not upgrade to 64 bit without the key? Is there no 64 bit trial mode for me to move into before I put in the activation key? Am I simply messing up the installation process?

Solution
If you want to install a 64-bit version, then yes (you are not the first to make this mistake, it happens to us all at some point).

That makes sense, but that doesn't explain why my 64 bit iso is installing as 32 bit. I've tried reinstalling after wiping the partition once already and had the same result. There shouldn't be any issues or special drivers I would need for setting up the os on a sony SSD is there?

The iso I am using is the en_windows_7_ultimate_with_sp1_x86_dvd_u_677460.iso from the corenoc download mirror of digitalriver if that helps at all.

Wow now I feel like an idiot. I've probably been doing the right steps the entire time.

so I should be going with x64 then.
