Hi community,

I have an old HP Compaq Pentium 4 Desktop, and wonder if I can upgrade it and improve its hardware specs, What will be the limitations and what's the max possible ?

My goal is to install a Linux Centos OS in it, including all the services.

Very old obsolete system. Intel 915GV Express Chipset Launch Date Q3 2004
The Intel 915GV does not support ANY dual core CPU, such as Pentium D or Core 2 Duo CPUs.

Can you provide a specific model number / make? With that info I would be able to look up the specific Mobo and chipset. Only then would I know.

Like many other Intel processors there are many versions of the Pentium 4. Knowing the exact model of the computer would help me.

I agree...you should provide the exact model of motherboard/PC!
If your motherboard is based on socket 478, the most powerful processor you can install is a 3.4 Ghz Pentium 4 Hyper-Threading.
If you have a socket 775 motherboard instead, maybe you can install also Pentium D and Core 2 Duo CPUs.
