Do i need a sound card?

Question quite straightforward and simple.I have a gigabyte GA-B85M-HD3 motherboard,Razer Kraken pro,do a lot of gaming and an heavy audiophile,since i have some spare money aside and upgrading my pc should i take something like an ASUS XONAR DG PCI 5.1, bulk and would it make any difference.

This might not be applicable for you but, I also heard stories wherein if you have a high end microphone and you plug it directly to your motherboard instead of the sound card, then the sound wouldn't be as good is it is supposed to.
