Dual Core E3200 or Quad Core Q6600?

I have a budget build currently and im trying to increase the performance without spending too much money. I have a stock motherboard with an LGA775 socket. Im looking for the best processor without changing the motherboard. Id heard that the Q6600 was the next best processor. Good idea to buy it or not. I can get it for £15 which is good for me.

Its a stock motherboard that came with the PC. I know that the socket on the motherboard is an LGA775 socket so would it be an upgrade if i got this CPU?

That is not enough info. The upgrade is only good if that CPU is compatible with your motherboard. Is this a name brand system (i.e., Dell, HP, etc)? If so, what model?

The motherboarf brand is actually pegatron. The brand of the pc is HP.
