Different RAM brands

Hi, really dumb question but just want to make sure so keep the trolling to a minimum if you can :)

I have an advent PC I want to do a RAM upgrade on. I get that you can use different brands so long as they match but my question is do certaon computers have to have certain brands of RAM. So do Samsung computers have to have Samsung ram? Do advent computers have to have advent ram?

Told you it was a dumb question!

PCs are made by PC companies. Memory modules are made by memory module companies. The memory chips on those memory modules are made by memory chip companies. There is some overlap - samsung manufactures all three afterall - whole PCs, memory modules for their PCs, and memory chips that dozens of companies use for dozens of purposes.

The memory that you use to upgrade your laptop does not have to be made by the manufacturer.
