Does it make sense to upgrade everything or just video card?

Hello there everyone!

This is my first post ever and i do apologise if I get something wrong.

Straight to the discussion. I have less than a month left in the US and am wondering if it makes sense to build a new pc or not since it is 1.5 times more expensive in my country.

Anyway i currently own:

MB - Asus z87-a LGA 1150
CPU - i5 4430 @ 3ghz
Video card - MSI Gaming N760 TF 2GD5/OC

Question is- is it worth it to switch to

MB - Gigabyte GA Z170X - Gaming 3
CPU - I5 6600k
Video - MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB DirectX 12 GTX 1060 GAMING

Or should i just swap the card and continue gaming. Thank you!

watch this video.
there is no "upgrade" from your CPU to 6600K - you will be wasting money.
I'd just get a new card and keep gaming. An Intel quad core in the 3-3.4Ghz range is the target. You've got a fairly recent one. I believe a full system swap would only be noticeable in benchmarking charts, but side by side, you wouldn't be able to tell which is which.

Edit: My personal opinion, upgrade CPU/motherboard when they offer new connectivity/features you're going to actually need versus a few more percent CPU performance.

Opinion: I'd update just the video card unless you have some evidence that the i5 4430 is not strong enough for the games you play. I'd consider using the money you saved on the CPU/MB to step up to GTX 1070 vs GTX 1060

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/495/Intel_Core_i5_i5-4430_vs_Intel_Core_i5_i5-6600K.html 6600K is a lot faster even w/o an OC, but it's not clear you will see any gaming advantage with the 6600K.

GTX 1060 is faster than the 760 by a good bit: http://hwbench.com/vgas/geforce-gtx-1060-vs-geforce-gtx-760
GTX 1070 is a beast. http://hwbench.com/vgas/geforce-gtx-1070-vs-geforce-gtx-760

If you upgrade can you take your old parts back with you? Leave both video cards in the PC for example then sell the 760 when you get home ? The complete update might make sense if you can sell the current i5-4430 based system at 50% higher then you can sell it for here .....

Yes, I do intend to sell my old build, which is in my country. I am in the US only for the season. I might keep the PSU and HDD tho, which leaves the Ram, Cpu, Video and MB to be sold for which i should get around 350-400$. I may even try and push it up to 450.

There isn't a great deal of real world performance increase between the current i5 4430 and the i5 6600K you have in mind, and you could always drop a i5 4690K into the existing motherboard (make sure you have the latest BIOS installed first) and only be about 10% slower than the far more expensive Skylake i5 6600K upgrade and still have all the overclocking goodness you want for a fraction of the cost.
But I can't disagree with the GTX1060 though, it's a very, very solid card for 1080 gaming and can handle 1440 rez if you tone the settings down carefully.

I was going to do that but then i saw that second hand i5 4690k on ebay is being sold 170-200. I managed to find a i5 6600k on sale for 209$ on ebay(new in box). I can give you the link if needed and that is what got me tempted.

Thank you very much! That kind of made my mind. Could you possibly tell me a good website for second hand components besides ebay/amazon? Thanks! I will save myself around 200$ by not getting a new MB and Ram which i will probably waste on a Monitor :)

I have decided to go for the i5 4690k and sell my old GPU and CPU in my country which would lower the margin even more.
