Hello there

Obligatory 'building first PC' cry for help post here.

I'm considering building my first PC from scratch; I've updated previous PCs before in the past but only really simple stuff (HDD/RAM/PSU), this would be the first time I've done a build from start to finish. I nearly built one 12 years ago but bought an Aldi prebuilt Medion one that did a decent job for what I wanted it to do.

Inspiration for this has come from watching Arma 3 and DayZ videos and realising how much I am missing from playing just on consoles. I'd also like to do a bit of video editing/animation Gareth Edwards style using programs like ZBrush/Autodesk 3DS Max and a bit of app programming (not for a career or anything, just to create stuff for myself really). So I realise I need a beefy system and in terms on monetary cost the sky in the limit. I've looked at this prebuilt unit below after it was featured on a FrankieonPC YouTube. I have almost no basis for comparison as I haven't seriously looked at graphics cards in a decade so I'm here to start the long process of learning about what is good:

From the original video posted on 10 July this unit is around £200 more expensive now. How would you guys rate this build in terms of performance and price?

I know that before I throw my money at anything I have to do a lot of reading beforehand and I'm looking for helpful guides and websites where I can read about the process of building a PC (selecting the parts). There is so much stuff out there to read and it's difficult to distinguish what to take note off and what to ignore. When I last looked at this kind of stuff, my brother, an IT technician who who fixes PCs and networks that schools have messed up, warned me about choosing the right motherboard first as graphics cards are only compatible with certain ones etc. I've already been reading on this website about the difference between decent PSU units and poor ones (have learned today not to touch Aerocool units).

In summary it's hard to know where to start on building a decent/top end PC. I know there are guides out there and have read a few forums and posts on sites like HDUK. But I would like a bit of advice from people who have and are doing this themselves.

Things I want from the PC:
* Play games like Arma 3 on high settings
* SSD - is it weird to get excited about a storage device?
* Intend on playing through a Samsung LE40N87 1080P TV - unless I'm convinced into getting a new monitor (I'm not sure if this is going to be frowned upon)

First question to ask here; is now a good time to buy a graphics card? (by this I mean are there some new cards getting realised soon? should I wait till Black Friday - I don't think BF would make a difference for high end cards anyway)

Second would be; which websites would you recommend for buying parts from? As stated I make good use of HDUK and the like and I don't mind shopping around once I know what exactly I am aiming to get.

Sorry for a long first post. I get that these types of posts can be annoying to regular users. I'm just a bit clueless and need to start somewhere.

Thanks
Paul
