I bought the DDR4 2400 8gb x2 at the same time I bought the I5 6600k. When I was looking on intel, it only shows like 1600/2133. a friend of mine said 2400 wouldn't work so tried taking it back to the store to get 2133 but was told it would work fine, so figured Id get other ppl's opinion. thank you :)

the motherboard Im using is MSI Z170I GAMING PRO AC Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard

Solution
The 2400 will work fine with that cpu. Only issue might be the motherboard, most low end boards are only certified for 2133. If you have a decent Z170, it won't be a problem.
Yes they may still work with Bios intervention.
Frequencies above the MB spec are considered an OC. Then its down to the strength of your IMC.
Depending on your Bios type and MB, you can obtain your SPD info in the tools menu or from CPUID in Windows. Write down the Primary Timings and voltage and manually enter the values in the relevant DIMMs config section of Bios. Try first with a 2133 MHz setting.
