Hey guys :)

Basically for the past 3 years Ive been running a sabertooth 990fx with an 8320 overclocked to 4.8ghz. I havent really had any problems with it until recently it finally started to die, I noticed the temp monitor isnt registering correctly and blue screens are common at any overclock now over 4.4ghz.

I was going to wait for Zen until I upgraded but I think I might switch over to intel but I looked on overclockers and the prices are insane.

I dont mind paying £350 for a cpu but they seem to be some of the cheaper ones.

Anyone recommend a good Motherboard and CPU for roughly £500 or less which will last say 3 years for gaming.

Sounds great!

I would probably go for the 6600k, as the i7 vs i5 in most games is really pointless, and it is well under your budget, depending on what you go for!

First off, I will recommend any of the Z170 Motherboards, as they're primarily made for both overclocking, and gaming (In most cases)

And you will probably want to get a good, closed loop water cooling system, such as H100i, not too sure about that.

You can get all of this for £530, you could always downgrade to a 6600k, but the 6700k starts off at 4GHz.

That will fit this CPU, I'm guessing you know this, but i'll remind you/tell you if you don't, but you'll need some Thermal paste if you don't have some already.

But the H80i will fit the 6700k, which will save you the extra £100 on a new H100i, and at least you know it is reliable, as it is still running.

Lga1155 = lga1150 = lga1151. If you kept the retaining gear for the h80i Intel it'll all fit.

First off, decide if you actually want to bother with OC again, the i5-6500 is decent as is. If you do want to OC, the i5-6600k is a good choice, you may not necessarily need the i7 6700k. Remember too that for this you'll need ddr4 ram

Oh yeah, my bad.

Forgot about that.

But I guess the 6700k is definitely future proof, and will shred anything thrown at it, rendering etc.

But the i5-6600k is agreeable, a great, definite upgrade if you want to save more money compared to the 6700k.

Either of the recommended motherboards will do,

Motherboard: Asus Z170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (£126.44 @ More Computers)

or

Motherboard: Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (£127.99 @ Overclockers.co.uk)

Don't forget that DDR4 Ram will be required with it, as said above. So that will still come under budget, depending on what you get.

^ Nice one that first looks pretty sweet.

Looking at prices I might get a 6600k as they are a fair lot cheaper and still will way outperform my 8320. Ive just got a 1070 so I think that could be a pretty nice set up.

Thanks for all the suggestions :)

If anyone has anymore to add its cool as I will probably wait a couple of days till buying.

Yeah, the 6600k is definitely a great choice if no video rendering or anything really CPU intensive is needed, and for the £80 less, it is still a great choice, and you can save more than £100 overall, as you'll still need DDR4 2133 RAM.

These are best prices I can find today -

6600k - 200
6700k - 250 used or 280 New

16gb ddr4 Corsair Vengeance - 50

Leaves me a lot of room to get a decent motherboard, might go for another sabertooth as this one has been fantastic.
