Hey Guys. I'm trying to get into PC gaming but on a low budget. And I wanted some advice on what parts I should use. Based on the title, I want to use used parts and I was wondering if the Q6600 could be implemented into this build. Thanks guys.

Solution

If you're choosing the i3 over the Q6600, go for the i3-6100 then.
There's no reason to go for an older model, when newer ones are better and just about the same price.

It could be implemented into this build, but I would not recommend it. The LGA775 socket is at the end of its life, so I would recommend something like the i3-4170, which is more expensive, but still quite a new CPU, and is in a somewhat up-to-date socket.

Heyo Fancyman5
I'm glad to hear that you're trying to get into pc gaming :)
As of the Q6600. It's an alright CPU, but it's getting pretty old. Personally I've made a "gaming rig" with the Q6600 and a HD 6970. They pair up pretty nicely, and can play some popular games, such as Dota2, TF2 and CS:GO with acceptable fps.
I'd advise you to go for a newer CPU, but the old Q6600 can still game.
And if you're willing to overclock it a bit, it's somewhat alright to use. (Mine is only OC'ed to 3.0 GHz, since my mobo isn't anything near capable of overclocking)

1. LGA775 platform in not only at the end of it's life. It is already obsolete a few years back.
2. However, depending on what you wanna do with it. If the price is right, it is still usable. If you wanna max the system out by giving it a new GPU, GTX950 is the max you can go. You can play all games up to 2012 and some of todays AAA games.
3. You must try to OC the Q6600 to at least 3GHz.

xfearDMom sorry for voting you down, I'm new to TomsHardware. Thanks everyone for your answers, I'll take some of your guys' advice and probably go for an i3. I'd like some advice on what components to buy to be able to accommodate an i3. The only problem is that I'm kind of on a tight budget ($400)

No worries, couldn't you just vote it up, or wont it let you.

And the i3-4170 is probably around $100, but you could get something like a GTX 750Ti to go along with it. I had a 750Ti and it is quite a powerful little card for the price.
