ASUS Z170 Deluxe Boot Problems

Hello guys, I have posted here a couple times and everyone is always so helpful. This problem is probably the most concerning problem I have run into, and as I always I use this site as a last resort so I'm hoping you can help. I was playing WoW last night when out of nowhere my monitors lose signal, speakers are looping nonsense sound, and computer is still running. I hard reset it, and when it comes back on I notice that my monitors are still not getting signal and any fan connected to a mobo fan header is not spinning (also seeing no status led on my gpu, as it has color coded load leds on it). My motherboard was showing 00 on the error code screen and I did a bunch of research into thee problem and tried a few things like swapping RAM to no avail. What makes this even stranger is that today, I wake up and my computer boots up like usual with no problems. I take the opportunity to monitor temps for a little while and everything is normal, CPU cores and GPU idling around 30c. I wasn't doing anything hardcore this morning, just working on an excel sheet for work and listening to spotify when almost the same thing happens, but this time my computer fully shuts down. I try starting it back up and same thing, fans not running although the computer turns on, and no life signs from my GPU.

P.S. Both of these times the computer wouldn't even post...can't get into BIOS....nothing.

My Setup is as follows:

ASUS Z170 Deluxe
Intel 6700k
32 GB EVGA DDR4 3200
ASUS 980ti Matrix Platinum 6gb
EVGA 850G2 850 watt PSU
Corsair Hydro H110
2tb WD Black drive
1tb WD Black Drive
1tb Toshiba drive
500gb Samsung 850 evo
Windows 10
5x Cougar Vortex fans
1x ThermalTake Riing fan
Standard Optical Drive

From what I described and the research and troubleshooting I did, it seems like it could be a failing processor? Just a bit more background- I have had some of these components for a while but slowly rebuilt this computer over the past year. I updated the cooling and the PSU about a year and a half ago, updated the GPU MOBO Processor and RAM about 6 months ago, and added more RAM two weeks ago and the Riing fan 3 days ago. What could this possibly be? I find it very odd that it would run completely fine for so long (I was on it a lot this weekend and since I upgraded the RAM) and randomly shut down and start giving me serious issues. Could it really be the processor that has been running completely fine and has not been touched / reseated / moved in 6 months?

Thanks for reading all of this and for the imminent knowledge that always comes from questions I ask here. Here's hoping someone knows of a solution.

Thanks,

-Kent

Hey Kent I'm having a similar issue as you right now, I can still occasionally get my PC to boot but it seems completely random on my Z170 Deluxe. I have no QCodes when it actually boots though. My issue started in the last week out of nowhere.

My issue has been degrading over time, it is booting more and more less frequently as days go by.

No overclocking on anything. Something else I failed to mention- I set all fans to PMW in the BIO about a week ago since one of my fans was running way louder and faster than it should have been, but like I stated above my temps are far below anything severe so I can't see that as being part of the issue.

Where do you think this instability could be stemming from? It just seems strange how intermittent this problem is. Could the motherboard power regulation be failing? Could the processor really be causing such strange instability like this? Could the PSU be the problem if it is turning on every time but certain things just aren't working? I understand you said I will have to do individual component testing, just figured I would try to pick your brain. Thanks for the response.

That's really strange man, I scoured the internet last night before going to bed and a lot of people seem to be having this same issue. A lot of things seem to lead to the processor being the problem, but I have seen people saying that this 00 Q-Code could mean many different things. I don't know enough about MOBO and CPU troubleshooting to know, but if a MOBO failed would it still be displaying Q-Codes? Would I still be able to power on the computer from the power button on the board (which I was able to)? Do processors regulate fan controls so closely that fans wouldn't spin at all if the processor failed? I'm just so puzzled and have so many questions hahaha

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. Could it be bent pins if the processor hasn't been touched in 6 months? Any recommendations on guides to resetting the BIOS if the computer will not post? Is this possible? I have had PSU problems with the computer shutting off randomly before, but this seems very strange the way it is acting. Could the PSU be the problem if it is turning on but fans / GPU aren't working (I can hear HDD spinning and fans connected to fan controller are working). Thanks again for the response and suggestions.

During my lunch break I went in and reseated the processor and checked to see if it was bent (saw people online having problems with bending because of the thinner wafers) and everything checked out...no bent pins either. I also checked all cable connections and it seemed like my motherboard power connector on the PSU side of things (mine is fully modular) was a bit loose, and I could feel one side of it snap into place when I pushed. I really hope that was the issue, but have no damn clue how it could have happened. I'll keep this updated as I run tests since my computer did boot back up earlier and still had the shutting down problems.

Fixed my issue. Pulled the entire system apart and reassembled it and it appears to be working fine for the last 4 hours. Rebooted multiple times to see if I could get it to no post. I'm assuming there was a short somewhere.
