So I just built a gaming pc not too long ago
games were running fine and smooth at that time but for the past few weeks on mainly league of legends and overwatch my fps goes from 60 to 1 goes back to 60 and than drops again when i move my character. Like wtf is going on I dont know if this is hardware failure or possibly me re using my old HDD

Specs are GTX 960
AMD FX 6300

Solution
Ok, that's rather annoying. That indicates something else entirely is the bottleneck, or we have faulty hardware elsewhere.

Do you use Afterburner? We could use that to monitor temperatures, usage, CPU temperatures, CPU usage, and RAM/VRAM usage. If anything spikes up high, we might be able to get more clues to figure this out. Jumping from 60 to 1 consistently is rather bizarre, so we might need to do a bunch of tinkering to figure it out.

The HDD wouldn't normally cause such drastic changes. Did you change drivers recently? That could have caused some issues, and if you haven't you might want to try to update drivers to see if that fixes anything.

I'd also consider checking if your GPU cooler is working properly. If it's clogged with dust or otherwise not working, your graphics card may be overheating. This is unlikely, since it wouldn't cause such erratic behaviour, but it's worth considering.

Most games I play my gpu is around 65-70c and my fans are spinning i have the latest drivers how ever this Fps drop is mainly happening when i play overwatch or league of legends its happened like twice on other games but mainly just those two games. I am lost here.

Then let's try going the other way: try downgrading drivers. Sometimes drivers can introduce new bugs accidentally. It's interesting that you're getting it on relatively low-power games, though. Do you notice any further artifacts other than the frame drops?

Well this is a problem specifically to overwatch but when I open the game it only shows my options to start a game and etc no background. I wait a few minutes and then the background appears when I start a game my character does not show for a long time I move my character my fps drops from 60 to 1 for a few seconds and just keeps repeating. My pc goes a bit slow at random times but I think thats just my old HDD other than that I dont notice many other problems.

The menu issues could very well be that the HDD is taking a bit to load the game. The frame drops to 1 FPS don't sound like they should be coming from the HDD, but it's worth considering as a possibility.

Is the HDD near full as well? That will definitely affect performance to some extent. I would still try downgrading drivers just in case, but let's keep the HDD in mind. I doubt the rest of the platform is an issue, but just in case could you post more details about your machine?

HDD still has 292 gb of space out of 680. I am pretty sure I had this problem before I updated the latest nvidia drivers but if drivers are the issue how can I downgrade it? Also what details would like of my machine?

I'd be very surprised if it's your HDD, then. It is probably the cause of the long loading in the menu, but I can't see how it would cause such severe issues in-game.

To downgrade drivers, just download and install an older version of the drivers. You might want to purge the newer drivers before that, but I've found it works fairly well without doing so.

If you could post details on RAM and motherboard, it might help reveal any issues. It's unlikely, but worth having the info.

Ok. I was suspecting possible lack of RAM or maybe a janky motherboard, but unless one of them is faulty they're unlikely to be the issue. The power supply should also be decent enough for this system. Without being able to diagnose, I would guess this is a graphics issue, although it is still possible a bad HDD would cause some issues. Did you try downgrading drivers yet?

I have gone to the drivers in my control panel and I am rolling back to my previous driver
Ok rolling back was not the best idea since now my driver is 358.91 which is a year old driver re downloading the one before the latest

No problem; I'm here to help. MSI has several videos and tutorials to help you learn how to do things. It's a pretty cool software, so it's really worth it to learn how to use it. Once you figure out how to monitor your computer, I'd suggest making another post if you find anything interesting so we can get other people's input on it.
