Heyoo

my pc likes to use 8gb ram while idle and doing nothing so I'm thinking about buying another 16gb ram since there are 4 slots for ram on my board (asrock pro4/d3) only thing is my be quite dark rock cpu cooler is very large and over hangs the 4th slot.

Is there a way to take the casing of Corsair DDR3L Vengeance Pro (CMY16GX3M2C2133C11R) memory?
I think then it would be able to fit
if not would there be a way to buy a single stick of 8gb ram?

Thanks in advance
(I would have put this on my previous thread but that is still an ongoing issue and if fixed this will not be needed)

No guarantees when mixing DRAM, if wanting 16GB would go with a 2x8GB set, then could try adding the old if you wanted or just go with the 16GB. And yes you can normally take the heat sinks off DRAM but very carefully, have seen many pop the memory chips off the stick when trying

no its the exact same dram thats why i specified that ram and i already have 16gb (my signature) but my memory usage is using 8gb while idle for some reason so thats the reason i want to buy more of the same ram the only problem is if i buy more ram i'll only be able to fit one stick in as the 4th slot is covered by the cpu cooler thats why i was inquiring as to how i should remove the shell of the ram

If it's not all in the same package it's mixing DRAM - I've gotten identical sets direct from the manufacturers before that won't play nice, and the forums are full of people 'adding' an identical set and them not playing, which is why I mentioned it. I also cover it in my Fiction article (items 2 and 6)

As far as removing the heatsink, yes it's possible, just have to be very careful
