My computer was randomly restarting while gaming. After a few tests, I thought the power supply was the problem so i took the PC to a friend's house and used his oower supply and it worked fine. Then i used my own power supply and it was working fine too. When I came back and used my setup again, the problem came back. The only thing different at my friend's house were the peripherals and external cable so could the problem be a faulty power supply cable or a problem with the house power or something else (i ruled out faulty socket and extension)

Solution
Yes it could be peripherals but not as obvious as we would hope and like. Perhaps some "perfect storm" of gameplay, software bug, resource consumption, etc.. Resource Monitor, Performance Monitor, and the Task Manager may help narrow down the culprit. Takes some time and effort.

First try another power cable and see if that ends the restarts.

Failing the above you still have diagnostic options. One thing you can do is to take a look at the Event Viewer logs. See what entries, if any, are occuring at the time of restarts or just before. Look for error codes and warnings.

At first glance the Event Viewer can appear overwhelming. However, once you have gained some sense of it all then it gets easier.

Does the restarting happen only when gaming? Did you do gaming at your friend's house?

You are on the right track by changing things one at a time to see if the problem disappears or continues.

Swap out your peripheralswhile at home. Borrow your friends peripherals if you can because you know they worked at his house. See if the restarts correspond with the presence or absence of any given peripheral of yours.

As I read your post the power supply cable could be faulty - swap it for a known working power supply cable.

House power issue: I think there would be other things happening if that were the case. Do you have a UPS available? Plug it into where the computer is plugged in and then plug the computer into one of the battery supported outlets. Or at least try plugging your computer via another/different circuit within your house.

Just keep following through on the troubleshooting and post accordingly.

im not 100% on this but i dont think it happens only while gaming but the chances of it happening definitely increase a lot while gaming. i thought the same thing about the house power issue thats why right now i think ill try a difderent power cable before anything else. can this type of problem really be caused by problems in any peripherals?
