I just built my first PC 2 weeks ago and am just now starting to hear a loud "pop" or "tap" from the upper part of my case. It happens not only under load, but even when the PC is shut down and off! Because of this, I don't think it's my HDD as I have nothing on it at the moment (all of my files right now are on my SSD) and besides some buzzing from coil whine in PSU, my PC is relatively quiet overall.
It's a NZXT Phantom 410 case and I have a ASUS z97-a mobo with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and GTX 970. I have read that this particular case being both metal and plastic can cause heat to expand and cause a pop every now and then, but i'm very confused. The cables are also kind of tightly packed behind the case panel, maybe it is that? It's not super repetitive, maybe 3 or 4 pops a day from upper part of case it seems.. I am just worried if it's dangerous to my components I never get above 67-68c in both my CPU and GPU temps so far. Any thoughts? Thank you!
