Coil Whine, PSU or GPU?

Hi,

I've had the same set up for about 4 years, then all of a sudden a few days ago I started hearing a really loud coil whine most of the time, it kind of goes away when I stress the system while playing a game or something, my question is, is there a way to "fix" this without replacing any hardware? is it my GPU or PSU's fault, which one should I replace?

I can play games and everything normally, but the sound is really annoying.

Setup:

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler
8 GB RAM 1333 Mhz
Motherboard GIGABYTE 880GM-USB3
Kingston HyperX 3K 240 GB SSD
ATI Radeon HD 7770
Generic PSU 550W

Thanks in advance!

That is an absolutely excellent PSU, but you could get away with somethign cheaper: https://www.amazon.com.mx/XFX-Wired-Bronze-Power-Supply/dp/B004RJ8EKI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1473792963&sr=1-1&keywords=xfx+ts
Non-modular, but very good quality.

That is an excellent choice for PSU. You can also refer to the PSU tier list to see if you can find a cheaper option.

For now, you can try underclocking your GPU with MSI Afterburner to a frequency that doesn't make it resonate.

Thanks for the suggestion, theres is about 25 USD difference between those 2 PSUs, I don't mind spending the extra cash if it's worth it, what do you think? or is there not much of a difference, quality speaking?

Thanks!

There is, but not as to justify the price diff. in and of itself. I would only spend teh extra 25 if you also care about modularity.

Ok, is 550W enough for this rig, considering I'll be getting the Nitro+ RX 480 8 GB GPU and maybe an extra 2 TB HDD?

Thanks again!
