How old is the cable you are using?
What cable are you using, Cat5, Cat5e Cat6?
My guess is it is at the limit of a 1Gbps connection speed and sometimes gets too much noise on the line dropping the rate to 100mbps

The router is in my basement and runs through the wall to get to upstairs in my bedroom.
The cable was bought about a year ago so I would say it's very new.
Cat 6 to my knowledge.
Ran a speedtest at 100 mbps and 1 gbps and the result is the same. Ethernet drivers are updated too
If it isn't diminishing my speed results I shouldn't worry about it right?

Well, it isn't normal but ultimately harmless, but it will cause issues if it switches while you are doing something like gaming or downloading.
It when that happens it is usually interference from nearby power lines in the walls or network cables being improperly bundled together. To avoid any disconnection issues, I would personally set the network adapter to 100mbs full duplex manually so it doesn't keep switching randomly.
If you need gigabit ethernet for that PC you may want to invest in some shielded cable and keep the distance as short as possible with no bundling of cables and try to keep it away from power cables (which isn't always possible).
so you're saying if it does switch from 1 gbps to 100 mbps while I'm browsing or whatever I'll disconnect? I will try what you suggested and report back thank you. When you said "I would personally set the network adapter to 100mbs full duplex" I'm assuming you meant MBPS correct?

Yeah it usually causes a disconnect when it switches.

No, your internet speed is well below the ethernet speed. You said you tested it before. You can test it again to be absolutely sure.
