Hello,

My question is; Gaming or Ultra Durable?

"GA-Z170X-Gaming 5 or 6 (rev. 1.0)" VS. "GA-Z170X-UD5 (rev. 1.0)"

I will be using my PC for gaming mostly, but also general purpose/work at home kind of things.
I may run a CAD/rendering program on this build, in the future.

These three boards (and the UD3) meet all my personal expectations, and that is the problem!
Their differences are things I'm not familiar with/don't have plans on using right out the gate.

My question isn't simply, "Which is better?"
It is a few questions:

1.) Between the gaming 5 & 6; is "Support for Sound Blaster X-Fi MB3" worth the xtra-$20, because it is their only difference!? (If there are other differences, please tell me what they are.)

2.) Which will benefit me more, in the future:
A.) (Gaming) "GENESYS LOGIC USB 2.0 Hub:: 2 x USB 2.0/1.1 ports", OR
B.) (U.D.) "ASMedia® ASM1061 chip: 2 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (SATA3 6~7), supporting AHCI mode only"

3.) Are there better boards for a better value?
I've focused on Gigabyte boards, as I will be running a GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1070 in this build.

4.) Do you see any specific benefits in:
A.) the GA-Z170X-Gaming 5 (or 6).
B.) the GA-Z170X-UD5.
C.) other intel, LGA1151, z170, ATX boards in the same price-range.

I am building this PC, after being on laptops or work PCs since 2008.
I have been researching these motherboards for a couple weeks, in my spare time, and cannot make a decision!

differences:

RAM: UD5 + Gaming 6 can handle 3466MHz RAM, Gaming 5 "only" 3200MHz
NIC: UD5 uses 2x an Intel LAN card, Gaming 5+6 Qualcomm Killer chips along with the Intel which are quite nice for gaming, the Gaming 6 a "better" one
external: tthe UD5 has 2 USB2 jack less (2 instead of 4)
Power Phases: UD5 + Gaming 6 got 12. Gaming 5 10.
looks: the UD5 just looks very elegant

honestly I'd go with the cheapest of those

What do you think about the ASRock brand?
The ASRock Z170 Extreme7+ specifically.
It has concerning reviews, I'm not sure if the abundant features overwhelmed some of those buyers, but the ratio of good to bad reviews is intimidating. Some reviews sounded like memory incompatibilities, or possibly OC the unit too hard.
They are $30 different, and the ASRock has more features and age-proofing. (but if it isn't going to last into the future it isn't future-proof, now is it!?)

My reasons for building a PC are gaming, prep for VR, and a little bit of work (simple CAD rendering)
I'd like to include the following in my setup
~3000 SDRAM
Intel 6700K
8GB 1070 Geforce GPU ( with plans to add a second for 2way-SLI, when VR tech grows and drops their prices.)
250GB M.2 SSD (for my OS and security software, mostly)
and additional storage in a 500GB SATA III SSD or 1TB HDD.

Thanks!
This your posts have been a huge help.

I was psyched to see the orange theme on the ASRock, but the reviews are TERRIFYING.

I think the UD5 is my MoBo of choice for now.
I'm still waiting for holiday sales to place my order for this build, and so I will keep researching in the meantime!
