The age old "which gpu" question

Hey folks

Really undecided on what GPU to upgrade to from the current selection, the partner has been nice enough to say I can even get a 1080 if I want but being a budget builder that price makes me think of all the other bits I could throw in.

Current Specs:
i7 4790
12GB Ram
120GB SSD
2TB SSHD
R9 280 3GB

I intend to keep the i7/ddr3 setup for at least another couple of years & only really play at 1080p so the higher spec GPU are starting to seem a waste on me.

Obviously a 1070 stands out but am starting to be swayed by either a 1060 + extra parts (SSD etc) or even an Rx480 due to the fact that when I do upgrade my mobo/cpu I could potentially throw another Rx480 in for crossfire.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Halp!

1070 may seem over kill for 1080p.
I play GTAV with all the sliders to the right and even advanced graphics settings and I still notice a dip in the low 50s when the screen gets busy + grassy area.

Trust me, if you get a 1060 or 480, later on you're going to wish you went with the 1070.
I don't think anyone ever regret getting a "too powerful" of a hardware component. Sooner or later everything else catches up.

Yeah I would 3rd the 1070 I was in a similar position was going to upgrade from two CF 7870 LE (basically 2GB version of 7950) to 1060/480 since I only plan to game at 1080p but I figured much better to have power that I don't need then having to CF/SLI shortly down the road if I decide to upgrade to 1440p monitor or even if games get more demanding of resources.

Thanks for the link man but sadly im UK based & we get absolutely blasted on tech prices.
Average price for a 1070 is about £400/$500, you can get some models cheaper if your lucky.

Will keep looking:)
