I have an old system...

HP P7 1110
CPU - 2nd gen i3 2120 (sandy bridge)
MOBO - Pegatron 2 Ac2 h61 2.0
Ram - 6gb DDR3 1333
PSU - 500w with 40 on the rail
PCI-e 2.0 x16
GPU - EVGA GT 610 2GB

I have looking for a new GPU for a bit. I was using the Intel HD 2000 Integrated Graphics but was having FPS issues with the new WoW xpac (fps 15 and lower on low settings). I attempted to upgrade to a NIVIDA 950, But unfortunately it was not compatible with my BIOS. Basically it seems that anything above a 6xx series GPU will not work on my system. So the only 6xx series GPU I could find locally (Microcenter) was a EVGA GT 610. It went in fine and works, even works for WoW with a steady 35 fps on low settings. So the card works (for now).

My question is if a 6xx series GPU will work, shouldn't a GT 740, which is a rebranded GTX 650, work also?

Please give me your take on this.

Do ALL 750ti's have dual bios?

Originally many suggestions I received told me the GTX 950 or the GTX 750i. After the experience with the 950 I am a bit hesitant to try the 750i.

ikaz, I appreciate your advice. Since I already know that with the dinosaur of a rig I have 7xx series GPU's should not work because they are not compatible with my bios I was thinking about a 7xx series that is bassically a 6xx series card with a new name. The GTX 750 ti is not based off old architecture and is a whole new design, so too is the GTX 950. Yet the GT 740 is a renamed GTX 650. So I was thinking that if a 6xx series works with my dusty old rig that there was a chance the 740 would too.

Just got this from EVGA....

This is a common outcome we see with new video cards in older (1+ year old) pre-built systems. The system builder doesn't update their motherboard BIOS to recognize newer architecture video cards. This is most common with HP and Compaq systems, but I've seen it with Dell, Lenovo, Asus, etc. too. It doesn't happen very often with aftermarket boards, but when it does Asus/Gigabyte/MSI/EVGA are all pretty quick to update our BIOSes to remedy the issue.

Typically if the manufacturer has a BIOS release for your system that's from around the release date of the video card or later, it should help compatibility. For the 750 cards, that means a BIOS in the last 2-3 months at the oldest. If there's nothing in the last year, the card is most likely not going to work.

This explains why 7xx series cards are not going to work on my system..... BIOS date 2/7/2012......GTX 750ti release date 02/14/2014.

The reason why I gave you through two links is because as EVGA stated HP and compaq sysetms have the same issue your going to probably have however the MSI card works on those older systems due to the Bios switch. So if you do a goolge search you will out that card should work even with older BIOS.
