Hi,

i7 6700K vs i5 6600K for gaming at 1080p 60hz with an EVGA GTX1070 FTW?

Games: GTA V FALLOUT 4 SHADOW OF MORDOR THE WITCHER 3 THE SIMS 4 THE DIVISION FAR CRY PRIMAL RISE OF TOMB RIDER etc...

Solution
Current games already utilize the extra threads, it's just that both CPUs are generally capable of delivering more frames than most people's monitors can display, so it's irrelevant.

The i5 will be adequate.

Clock for clock they perform the same in nearly every game, If just for gaming the i5 will save you quite a bit of money and give the same performance.

The extra threads of the i7 will help for multitasking and doing things that make use of the threads like rendering. There is talk that future games (at least a year down the track) will utilise the extra threads properly. But we will have to wait and see.

I have Chrome open with at least 5 tabs on it while gaming, does it matter?.
Plus all the software opened like msi afterburner, geforce experience, etc...

Very few current games are capable of making meaningful use of the extra threads. More than 99.9% of games out there show little to no benefit from going beyond four quad-core single-threaded CPUs, some even perform worse on CPUs with HT.

Hit up GameGPU and look at the 20-40 most recently released titles. Nearly all of them perform better on a 5820K than a 4770k or 4790K, despite the former being of the same architecture with lower clockspeed. Maybe it's the difference in how much cache they have, and not the extra cores, but regardless, CPUs with more cores can deliver higher framerates.

But again, who's counting when we're talking 150 vs 160fps when you have a 60hz monitor?

I didn't say that games that fare better with more cores didn't exist, I said that they represent an insignificant portion of games currently available. And, as you just said, most of what few games do benefit are at performance points where the difference is usually pointless.
