Solution
@kuhne, I can assure you there's no single GPU out there currently that will be held back by a i7-4770K @4.5ghz, especially at that resolution, enjoy that X34 Predator & Titan Pascal. :)

im in a similar boat right now, I have an overclocked i7 4770k (4.5) 16gb gskills and built this on a very small case, it only fits one card so SLI isn't possible, I also don't want to have to get a new motherboard (would probably be a new case as well) and a cpu in order to upgrade my gpu, so I just went on and bought the titan xp and the x34 predator.

It is a lot of cash to throw around but I am constrained by my case and by the fact that I love my case and my current setup and really don't want to do an overhaul.

My current setup is.

CPU: i7 4770k 4.5 water cooled
GPU: Factory overclocked titan black with modded cooler and backplate
RAM: 16gb gskills, oc'd to 2400
1 128gb samsung SSD for OS
Two 1tb samsung SSD's in raid 0 for games, applications and whatever work (say video editing)
5tb mechanical drive for storage.

It took a lot of planning and work to plan this rig carefully since I had to fit a lot into a very small case. I could only find one radiator that fit in there and had to make sure it didn't bump with the gpu fan I installed.

So it really pains me to all of a sudden go "Oh well, I want a titan x, time to overhaul!" when this machine is two years and a half old.

True, I could look for a small motherboard that would fit in this case and buy a new cpu but that would be a pain, not only is it more money but I am not entirely sure that would work at all since this case was designed with this motherboard installed (case came with the board installed, MSI did some changes to this mobo)

So realistically I would have to change a lot of things in order to get a newer CPU for the titan xp.

True, I could have bought a 1080, since I will probably see similar improvement with the titan xp due to my older cpu but I really wanted the titan xp and I want this rig to last me another 3 years.

Time will tell how bad the i7 4770k hurts me
