Hi,

i just bought a rx 460 and i only have a 265w (265AM-00) dell psu with what i believe to be 22 amps (based on 265w/12v rail). I installed the card and i am experiencing some severe performance issues, blue, pink, red screen or even a blurry screen at startup and graphics drivers always crash games have massive sound bugs and massive fps drops (impossible to play)

I wanted to know if these symptoms are normal for a ''too weak'' psu. Basically i want to make sure that the psu is the problem before buying one and having to deal with the complications of installing a new psu.

The PSU is most likely the cause. However, it's not that common to see those issues until you launch a game or something that actually uses a lot of GPU power. I'd test that card on another computer before assuming the PSU is at fault. You should be able to use the desktop and basic stuff with no problem. But it could still be the cause, I'd just make sure I test the card too without assuming that the PSU is the only thing that's wrong.

Could it be the bios that are too old ? i dont have the latest version. and if its the case should i try to upgrade the bios with my old gpu (r7 250) or let the new one pluggged when upgrading bios? thanks for taking the time to answer by the way

alright so heres a little update on the situation. After doing a bit of research im pretty sure that the power supply is the problem. So i ordered a 400w EVGA power supply and tonight i will test the rx 460 on my friend's computer. I will keep you guys up to date on what happens next.

Not very likely, I'd even go as far as saying it has nothing to do at all. It either works or it doesn't when it's a bios matter regarding video cards. Unless you are overclocking, which could cause other issues, but that's not your case. I'd stick to the PSU related stuff.

i have the same feeling and the worst thing is that i destroyed my r7 250 while trying to install the new one (forgot to unlock the pci slot and damaged the pins, could also be ESD im always grounded but my t shirt might have had some friction with gpu).

But why do you have this feeling what could be wrong if its neither the power supply or the gpu ?

What power supply did you put in?
