Wireless connection issue with Blu-ray player

I searched the forums but am not finding anything like this and I can’t for the life of me figure it out. I’m running an Asus RT-AC56R dual band wireless router at my house. It works flawlessly with everything; laptops, phones, Xbox. The only issue I am having is with the wireless connection to my Blu-ray player, which I’d really like to use for Netflix. It is a Samsung BD-J5700.

I’ve tested the signal strength with my laptop right next to the Blu-ray and it’s good. It seems like it’s connecting - the router shows up and accepts the password, but it gives me an error message that it can’t connect to the internet. Router and Blu-ray are set to WPA2PSK/AES.

Tried rebooting everything; cable modem, router, Blu-ray + changing the password & channel on the router. No effect. It’s got to be something really obvious, right?

Check for a firmware update on the player. And the router while you're at it, just because.

Does the player see the router during setup? Is it set to get an IP from DHCP? There may be other steps in the setup that cause it to fail. Temporarily turn off the wifi encryption and try again.

Blu-rays can suffer greatly from poor antenna placement within the device. If the above doesn't help, turn the player 180 degrees or to other positions. If that doesn't help, temporarily move it right next to the router to eliminate or confirm poor wifi reception as a problem. At least to the extent it can be eliminated.

Samsung may have a forum for their own devices, you might check there for people that know more about the specific model...

I really don't know anything else that can be done. Depending on how much time you have to troubleshoot vs your budget, if the player has an ethernet port, consider ditching the wifi altogether and using AV2-1200 or better rated powerline (EoP) adapters. EoP will be less trouble in the long run for all fixed location devices.

Router and player firmware is all up to date, and as I said previously- the player does find the router and seems to accept the password. It is set to DHCP.

Before posting here, I actually checked the Samsung site and there's not much help to be found. I always get the best info here anyway :)

What you are saying about the antenna within the device seems to make the most sense since the signal is good. I guess I just assumed that if my laptop/phone will connect at the same location, the player would as well. I'll move the device around a bit to see if it helps. If I have to, I will go with a powerline adapter since the player does have a LAN port. Thanks!
