Hello,
I have a windows 7 basic Acer Laptop model 5742. Dont have the OS cd supplied by the manufacturer/vendor.
Summary -
1 - Lan and Wifi Drivers some how went missing from it and it had a slow boot process cause of a lot of additional softwares.
2- I removed the softwares that were user installed and booted the system
3- It took a very long unexpected boot time and choosing Safe mode / safe mode with n/w or command prompt, the Windows loading files screen that shows up next was stuck at a particular file that I dont remember now for a very long time, hence I attempted a System repair option which shows up in Safe mode interface.
4- System repair showed some error pertaining to -- ACL's on file D:\windows\system 32\drivers\sftfslh.sys are not proper. Old value = 0x0 Error code -- 0x45d
5 - I some how booted the system in normal mode and checked Device Mgr - Show Hidden devices. There under Non Play and Play devices there was some thing like Sftf - i dont remember correctly. Assuming, unistalling it may work and if need be, windows will install it correctly on next boot, I uninstalled it.
6 - Since then the system is not booting up either in Safe mode or in Normal mode. When switching on it shows System repair screen by default, stating Windows is attempting repairs and stays stuck there.
I have a Ubuntu Live USB created and booted up the system so if need be I can try some steps as per your advise.
Thanks a lot,
