Hello, I have a question does the dvd drives make sound without having a disc inside because i have a sound coming from the front of my pc and im wondering from what part is the sound the dvd drive or the hard disc..
Sorry about the stupid question :(

Solution
It can. Usually when booting up, the computer tests each component, which involves spinning up all disc drives and hard drives. It's normal to hear them then. If a disc drive continues spinning without a disc, then we might have a problem. Hard drives do tend to spin up and down depending on the load.

You could disconnect the disc drive to see if it is the cause of the noise, and otherwise it is likely to be the HDD. Assuming it's not a fan hitting something, or anything like that.

Spin up is perhaps not the perfect term for it, but HDD's do use different movement rates depending on usage scenarios. Operating at full power all the time unnecessarily increases wear and noise, so there is definitely a graduation on most modern drives.

It's still what creates the noise, which was my initial point :) I think we can conclude OP's query has been answered, though; the noise does seem to be coming from the HDD, regardless of which part of the drive is causing the vibrations.
