Quick question. How powerful PSU do I need for my PC? It turns out my current PSU is faulty or just don't provide enough power (got such answer in this topic). Is 550w enough? When I checked in some online power consumption calculator it said my PC uses about 480w. However, 750w is recommended for my GPU on MSI site. Should I simply RMA my PSU and use the one I get or try to sell it and get more powerful?

My current setup:

  • ■Intel Core i5-4690K, 3.5GHz, 6MB, BOX (BX80646I54690K)
    ■MSI Radeon R9 390 8GB GDDR5 (512 bit) HDMI, 2x DVI, DP (R9 390 GAMING 8G)
    ■MSI Z97S SLI KRAIT EDITION, Z97S, 1150, DDR3, SATA3, SLI, (Z97S SLI KRAIT EDITION)
    ■XFX Black Edition XTR 550W Fully Modular 135mm 80+ Gold (P1-550B-BEFX)
    ■G.Skill DDR3 16GB (8GBx2) 2400MHz, CL11, SNIPER Dual (F3-2400C11D-16GSR)
    ■Toshiba P300 Performance 3.5 1TB
    ■SSD Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SATA3 (MZ-75E250B/EU)
    ■Monitor Dell P2214H
    ■CPU SilentiumPC Grandis XE1236 (SPC099) - CPU cooler

Solution
275 watt card.
88 Watt CPU.
About 80 everything else 443 Watt PC before any overclocking.
The XFX PSU is good quality and should at least run everything. Im not a fan of running power supplies to close to max load all the time I would see if can RMA it for the 650 Watt model with you paying the differance.

You'd probably be better off with a 650W. I think what you have should be enough, but it also depends on what you have plugged in to your PC.
