Hello guys, i came here today with a big question, and i hope you guys can help me find the right answer.

Current PC:

  • i5 4590
    MSI H97 Gaming 3
    2x4GB(8GB) DDR3 Corsair
    MSI R9 270 Gaming 2GB
    Corsair CX430

It is hard to believe, but when i built this Computer, i thought it would last longer, until maybe 8th Generation from Intel CPUs so i could change it later on. But the tables simply has turned.

As you guys probably know, Most 2H 2016 Games are super CPU intensive, and i never thought i would see something like this in 2016, but i guess 2017 it's going to be even worse.

Many people complaning about their lastest gen i5 not being able to handle those Games without reaching out 100% CPU Usage.

Battlefield 1 = 75~80% CPU Usage on an i7 6700K
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided DX12 = Around 60% i7 6700K
Doom on Vulkan - Around 65% i7 6700K
And many others...

As you guys can see, i need to upgrade that GPU in order to play Games maxing out 1080p. I thought about Upgrading for GTX 1070, but it seems that my i5 4590 it's going to bottleneck that GPU. So i realized that i might need to upgrade to i7 4790K so my Haswell Platform can last a bit longer and after run this GTX 1070 without any problems.

But the main problem is, i only have the money to buy the i7 4790K or the GTX 1070 for now, i can't buy those at once, will take some months for me to be able to buy the other.

As my main purpose is Gaming, what would you guys recommend me to do? Buy the i7 4790K or the GTX 1070?

Solution
Buy a GTX 1070. When you have more money saved up, invest in upgrading your platform (i.e possibly X99 motherboard, CPU and RAM). There will be diminishing returns in purchasing a Intel Core i7 4790K.
