Which is the best path to take?

Even the 6800k is too much, 6600k can max out 95% of the games, 6700k can max all.
I don't think you will need SLI, the 1080 maxes all games on 4K.
If you go this way, you will have to spend a 1080's worth of money or more for a monitor.

It's common logic. Even if I was a billionaire, I'd still try to get semi good deals.

If you look up "how people became millionares" one of the core principles is getting the most bang for your buck surprisingly. (just to be clear, I'm not saying you should horde money like a maniac. But just spending money for no reason isn't good either.)

Anyways, sorry for derailing. But OP, go with the SLI 1080s. It's almost a no brainer.

The 6800k isn't just there for no reason, and is able to handle many more tasks at once and will be useful when DX12 is in full swing game wise, plus it has the new turbo boost max 3.0 etc and is ultra-responsive. If I could afford one I'd buy it AND utilise its full capacity although for pure gaming as things are now the 6700k has better single core speed I admit, but hey. I can definitely afford humour! Its free. Who wants to be a billionaire anyway? Lol
