Hello everyone , I am a long time lurker and first time poster. I am looking to build a system for my wife and i would appreciate some advise on my hardware. It will be used for normal stuff like email and other menial tasks. It will also be used to stream 4k Content, edit photos, and maybe some light video editing.

I have build or assisted building 3 healthy gaming pc's so I know what that takes, but where my question comes into play is I don't know what it takes to edit video or handle 4k playback?

I am trying to build a system that gives alot of power on a sane budget. I would like it to handle all these tasks with ease ( maybe not video editing with ease, but within reason). My main concern is if a 4g rx460 is up to the task? I'll post the link below and your feed back is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The i5-6600k will perform better due to higher clock speeds and the potential to overclock. Unless you plan to overclock it won't make a huge difference. You don't need the 6700k unless you're doing more intensive editing and rendering, which it doesn't sound like your wife will.

Non-k CPUs come with coolers. They're good enough and aren't terribly loud, but they can't handle an overclocked CPU, which is why they don't come with k CPUs.

That board is a good choice. If you want to spend some extra money and get good features, it's a good choice. You could definitely go for a cheaper option, but you probably won't find one with the same feature set. Upgrading to a 6600k later wouldn't give enough of a performance boost to justify the...

That GPU should be able to handle 4K video, but it definitely won't be gaming at 4K.

An i7-6700 would be better for any kind of photo editing and video editing, but if you don't care too muchg abbout rendering times, the i5-6500 is enough. Seeing as you're getting a non-k variant of the processor, you clearly won't be overclocking. In that case you don't need the Hyper 212, the stock CPU cooler that comes with the processor is enough. You also don't need a Z170 motherboard, since you won't be overclocking. An H170 board should do fine.

Hi lightening, and thanks for your reply. In real world performance would the 6600k be a much better choice? Clearly it's better but very noticable? If so I wouldn't be opposed.overclocking wasn't a goal here as i want it to be stabIe and worry free. The 6600k will boost alot higher with out oc so maybe its the way to go? I can read specs, but I don't have any personal bench mark for this kind of thing my build is my first custom pc and it has a 6700k. I don't think she needs an I7 as this is just for hobby type stuff.

As for the cooler I thought that none of the skylake cpu's came with a cooler? Guess that's just the k models?

The board I chose seems to have a the features I was looking for at descent price. I'm also picky about who I will purchase from and msi fits the bill. Perhaps I'll keep it and upgrade to a 6600k

If you want it, you should get it now. You'll just have to pay a bit extra for the CPU and a cooler.
