I am posting this question because reading around it seems it might help some other people.

I built my computer using an ASRock X99 Extreme4 with 16GB of RAM and a 6800k processor. After setting up the hardware, I tried to POST but all I got was a red LED light, no beeps, and nothing on the screen.

I then started troubleshooting: just the CPU/heatsink (got 3 beep codes), then sequentially filled the memory slots (3 beep codes), then all four memory sticks in (5 beeps codes, which for ASRock seems to mean no VGA card), and then I inserted the graphics card and I got no beep codes, just a red BIOS light.

At this point I ran across this thread: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1855312/display-monitor-post-beeps.html

I had connected my monitor using DisplayPort, so out of curiosity I switched the connection to HDMI, and voila, I realized I had been POSTing all the time but the motherboard wasn't recognizing the DisplayPort, so that was my problem.

I hope this helps other people not waste as much time as I did and is another easy thing to try alongside reseat RAM, clear CMOS, and now hopefully connect via HDMI instead of DisplayPort.
