Hi, So recently ive had a problem with my ram, I have a dell optiplex 980 with intel core i5 650 , im not sure about the mother board but I know its supposed to take ddr3 ram, Originally I had two 2gb pc3-8500U ddr3 ram sticks totalling 4 GBs, I was able to boot normally and windows would detect all 4 gigs. Fast foward to now, I decided to keep one of the 2gb sticks and try adding an 8Gb pc3 12800U samsung ram stick, totalling 10gigs of ram which i thought would work perfectly fine, However whenever I try to boot up (I have windows 10 pro by the way) I get a Windows has ran into a problem screen and the computer restarts only to bring it into an endless loop of rebooting and crashing, I checked the BIOS to make sure the ram was compatible, and sure enough all 10GBs of ram was fully recognized, but for some reason windows refuses to boot with it, Could it be because uneven ram? Im new to computers and never had this happend and I tried looking online for a solid answer but didnt get much. I tried moving the ram sticks to different slots but everytime i would do so i wouldnt even be able to boot to the windows screen, it would say the dimm slot has failed, only one combination worked and thats what brings me to the crashing screen, need a solution to this very bad, Thank you

Edit: I try using just the 8GB stick in single channel but whenever I do, It doesnt show ANYTHING, just shows a screen with some really weird pattern not even letting me go to the bios or anything

mixing RAM is never guaranteed to work . Try removing that 2GB stick to have only the 8GB.

Also, seems like you just bought a random RAM , you didn't check your system specs and the reccomended speeds.

If this is your RAM, then it is 1600MHz while dell says it supports 1333MHz.

If the pc works fine with the 8GB stick then ok, if it doesn't try a BIOS update, MAYBE it will make it work.
