FPS jitters/stutters?

Hey guys. This has probably been answered but I don't really have the time to look right now.

Basically when I'm playing games (anything, mostly league of legends and Diablo 3/WoW) my FPS just stutters from time to time and jitters here and there.

It's mostly when something happens, normally minor like an ability being used or a ward being dropped. I just don't understand what is happening.

All drivers are installed as a precaution.

Specs:

16GB RAM
R9 390
FX 8350
SSD drive too

I'm using the Asus VG248QE and I've set the refresh rate to 144hz.

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it quite a lot.

I haven't messed with any settings like on the catalyst control centre or whatever Radeon call their stuff nowadays, although I have it installed.

Thanks in advance!!

Solution

You need to check the MB itself. Either near it's name or in some corner it will have "rev. x.x" on it.
Well, open Crimson settings(make sure you have teh altest) go into gaming > global settings and disable power efficiency.
Then back, and, in teh specific game profile, set frtc to your monitor's refresh rate. Then, inside the games settings make sure you disable Vsync.

This annoys me so much lmao

Anyways, which AMD motherboard are you using? Also which power supply? The FX-8350 is quite prone to overheating if you don't have the right setup, which will cause those stutters and inconsistency in performance overall.

So which:

  • Motherboard
    CPU Cooler
    Power supply

Monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming. Especially CPU, as this particular model has a fairly low max-temp level before it starts throttling, somewhere between 62 and 70C. If your temps exceed 70C, you will need either cleaning, better cooler or better airflow within the case.

Okay thanks guys.

Mobo is quite old, I cant even remember the type. It's Gigabyte of some sorts.

And Hyper Evo 212 cooler, with a pretty bad case which I thought was bigger when ordered.

LOL. Well, i'm sure OP cares a bit less about these things than finding a solution to theur issue ;)

OP, RCFProd is very much right on this one. You need to provide us with your MB model as it's quite common for non-top AM3+ MBs to not be able to feed that CPU under heavy load.
