Can a router put out internet via Ethernet and WiFi at the same time?

I recently plugged an Ethernet cord running from my router to my laptop in hopes of increasing my internet speed, doing this helped tremendously. However, I can't seem to catch the wifi signal on my phone anymore.

Is is possible to have both?

Or, does connecting the Ethernet does that change the network name I need to connect to?

If the router is operating correctly it can handle this with no problem. It is what they are designed to do. The network names difference you mention are problem just different things the machines call what is ultimately the same network.

It sounds like you need to log into the router and make sure the wifi settings are OK and the wifi has not just shut itself down.

Nope. Just plugged in the cord straight into one of the router ports and then right into the laptop port.

It seems that the laptop is now connected to a different network than the wifi though, but it is probably just a different name due to the Ethernet connection.
