Infinite boot loop after failed / interrupted clean install of windows 8

So I was installing windows 8 from a usb that I made with the windows creation tool. I had no CD drive so couldn't install any mobo drivers. The install said getting files ready, and that took a few mins, but then when it get to installing features and stuff it just skipped right through. Not sure if that's normal. Anyway it finished and said your computer will restart several times, but then it said "remove external drive C: to continue."

Now this confused me because the only thing plugged in was the SSD (where I was installing to) and the usb drive. No other hd or cd drive present. How can I unplug the internal SSD if that's where I'm trying to install? I couldn't proceed so I searched the problem and found people who said the usb drive needs to be removed in order to continue. So I unplugged the usb and it let me continue. It restarted, but then kept restarting over and over and wouldn't stop. This keeps happening unless I unplug the ssd completely.

If both the ssd and usb are unplugged, then I can get into the bios for a little while, but it'll eventually shut down after a bit. I have enough time to change settings but then it'll shut down. If I have the ssd plugged in, then I get the infinite boot loop and it restarts before I even get into bios settings. If I have the usb plugged in but not the ssd, then I can go through the windows install process again, but obviously this doesn't help since there's no ssd present to install.

What the heck do I do in this situation? Is it something with the boot order? Corrupted install? I'd reformat the ssd if I could, but I don't know how I can do that since I can't even plug it in.

Also I should mention this is my first build. I assembled everything myself. But before trying to install windows, the computer booted fine and would stay on, at that screen saying to press a key to boot. Everything appeared normal and working. In the BIOS, the CPU and RAM are operating at normal speeds, nothing seems to be overheating. I really think the interrupted windows install is the problem.

Solution
Something was odd with win 8 telling you to remove c drive so it might be a mix of both

Old PSU don't support the new features in windows or the motherboards so it could be reason for random restarts. Having a good PSU keeps everything else alive, bad ones can prematurely cause death in other parts. The Antec may have died of old age before being used.

Since its a new PC, make sure all the ram is seated properly and all cables attached tightly (Not too tight)

on another PC, create a USB using this: http://www.dban.org/
plug in ssd, and boot off the dban USB and wipe the ssd
once wiped, plug in Win 8 installer and start again

hopefully same thing doesn't happen again. I don't know win 8 install that well so cannot say if its normal to skip those steps.

So it might not be the bad windows install after all. I managed to wipe the SSD in the windows installer by deleting all the partitions when it asks what drive to install to. Then the install began, but it shut down again right after it started and then kept restarting.

Now I've also had some random shutdowns while in the BIOS screen, but it takes longer for this to happen. I also tried unplugging the data cable from the SSD and just plugging in the power, which also causes restarts. This makes me think it's the PSU. At one point, the monitor also stopped receiving input. Nothing would happen when it booted and the monitor wouldn't come on at all. Strangely I tried plugging the monitor into another outlet, and then it powered on just fine. I thought maybe I had overloaded the outlet or the outlet was bad, but that wasn't it. I've tried outlets on the opposite side of the house.

The power supply is the only thing I didn't buy new. It's an old Antec Neo HE 550 that was sitting in a closet for over 10 yrs, but it was never used so I figured it'd be fine. Guess not? Anyway I've got an EVGA 700W B1 Bronze coming on Monday, so I really hope that's it. I don't get any POST beeps, cpu is running at good temps and speeds.

The only other thing I can think of is that the motherboard didn't fit the case perfectly, so one of the screws didn't screw into the standoff perfectly. I mean it's screwed in but it's not snug against the board like the others. I don't know if it's enough to cause a short, but there was really no way around it while still having the ports accessible through the I/O shield. If the PSU doesn't work I'll try to remount it.
