I have a Maximus Gene IIV mobo. But i lost my Supreme fx sound card. Can anyone suggest, which other sound card i can purchase as an alternatives for that supreme fx? Any sound card that can fit the mobo? Something that really work and never fried my mobo? Xonar?

I think those sound cards might be a tad overkill for a lot of people, maybe consider some of the cheaper cards (you can go the for 7.1 ones if you have a 7.1 speaker system but you should be fine for these otherwise):

- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102062&cm_re=creative_sound_blaster-_-29-102-062-_-Product (Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX 5.1)

- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4M52YX8228&cm_re=xonar_dg-_-29-132-020-_-Product (Asus Xonar DG)

You will have to go for the Xonar DGX if you want a Xonar card that fits into the full sized PCI slot but any of these should fit (unless you have a large GPU).

Realtek ALC898 chip
would surely be a downgrade to the SupremeFX Impact II.

Since there's no such thing as a Gene IIV you should have gone with the rule of the common typos and go ahead with recommendation based on the Gene VII PCIe slot: it has 2xPCIe x16 + 1xPCIe x4. It can't support the PCI based Xonar DG.

So he would have to go for a DGX. From what I've read, the SupremFX Impact II uses a Realtek ALC889 chip so it's not exactly the greatest thing ever, Asus just piles the software on for it.

I've never owned an Audigy card before so I can't speak for how it sounds but I would doubt that the OP would want to pay USD$100 to replace their on-board sound.

Please do tell where did you hear that the Supreme FX Impact II on the Gene VII is ALC889, since both HardOCP and Overclockers both very clearly stated that it is the ALC1150.

Factual comparison was made at bit-tech show how it comes out ahead of the Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe (ALC898 - playback SNR 110dB).
How it is mixed against an example result from MSI Z170A Gaming M7 provided by techpowerup (ALC1150 - playback SNR 115dB) or the official numbers right from ASROCK advertisement for their Purity Sound 3 implementation of the ALC1150.
And you say that it's just the ALC889 - playback SNR 104dB?
